The Quest for Toxic Free Make Up and Skincare

Since starting my quest to find Make Up that is toxic free, I am very happy to say that I am still using many of the same products and my skin is still blemish free most of the time! My favorite make up brand is still 100% Percent Pure. You can read which products worked for me below. I am excited to tell others about this because I think they have such great products! I am not receiving any compensation for spreading the news.

100% Pure Products
This is still my favorite skin care and make up line! Skin care products are amazing! After 2 years of using their make up, I may never choose another Foundation again! My skin looks the best that it ever has and I hardly ever have blemishes. Their hair products are pretty great too!

Recently, I have become motivated to cut back on the toxins in my everyday life. After scouring the SkinDeep app by the EWG, I found some make up products with low scores (lower = less toxins) and decided to try them out.
I will preface this by saying that I am a teacher and a mom. I need a make up that can go all day and doesn't rub off. I am considering this project a "Science Experiment" and am documenting the photos to tell if the products are really working over time. I am just a normal looking lady trying to find a non-toxic make up / skin care that works great! My hope is that maybe by sharing this someone else will find these great products or not have to experiment as much as I did to find the right product for their skin.
Here is what I have found so far:
100% Pure Products
This is my new favorite skin care and make up line! Skin care products are amazing! I am giving them a 6 week test to see where my skin ends up but so far, it is really looking great!
Over 5 weeks, I noticed:
- Pore minimization with using Purity Facial Cleanser and Mask - Link - I use this every couple of days
- Less irritation using Jasmine Green Tea Foaming Facial Cleanser - Link - This is my daily cleanser
- Less Redness from Acne and Quicker Time in Going Away Nightly I use: Purity Spot Treatment - Link - Note: I have for most of my adult life gotten large, painful acne on my chin area which would stay for long period of time; now the size of acne is dramatically lessened, relatively painless, and goes away quickly;
- Healthier -looking, brighter skin
- Make up stays on better after using the skin care products over time
The best way to use their foundations so far has been to use a primer and then foundation over that or mix the Tinted Moisturizer with the Fruit-Pigmented Foundation. However At first, the foundation did not have much longevity, but I noticed that over time of using their skin care that it now stays on better (i.e. if I used a Kleenex on my nose, there was a a blotchy place where the make up was rubbed).
100% Pure Crème Foundation
- Great if you want thick coverage!
- Feels nice on skin
- I ordered in Alpine Rose (the lightest color) and it was too light for my skin. I may try in a different color when winter arrives.
100 % Pure Yuzu Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner - Fabulous! This will be all that I buy for my family after my Pureology runs out. I would stay with Pureology, but their shampoo received a score of 5 from SkinDeep! 100% Pure Shampoo and Conditioner give a very similar result at a much, much lower (and more non-toxic) score.
Dermablend Liquid Camo
Finish: There is a little shine.
Pores- My pores were somewhat minimized. It did not fill them in, but did not accentuate them either.
SkinDeep Score : 2
Staying power - 4 out of 5. Did not rub off on clothing, but there was some fading around my nose.
Sunscreen: There is no Sunscreen.
When to use: If I were going to a convention or meeting at Central Office. Not for everyday or outdoor use.
Bella Mari Moisturizing Foundation
Coverage: light
Finish: There is a little shine.
Pores: This did not do much to minimize my pores.
SkinDeep Score : 1
Staying power - 1 out of 5. Rubbed off on anything it touched.
Sunscreen: There is Sunscreen.
When to use: this is not the foundation for me but there is lots to like! Very moisturizing. You can order a sample for a low cost. There are lots and lots of colors to choose from! It is very creamy and blends nicely. You can go over your skin several times and the foundations will blend together. Would probably work better for someone who wants light coverage, is outside, and won't be holding anything up to your face (sunglasses or a camera).
Ava Anderson BB Cream
Coverage: light
Finish: There is a little shine.
Pores: This did not do much to minimize my pores.
SkinDeep Score : ?
Staying power - Good!
Sunscreen: There is Sunscreen. 20 SPF.
When to use: This did not offer enough coverage for my "Make Up" however, it feels great and is now my stand by if I want a very light coverage or am going on an outdoor adventure for the day. Plus, I like the company itself and that it was started by a teenager.
